The Gunnedah Conservatorium Choral program offers a staged Choral experience for singers from Kindergarten through to adults. Younger singers are catered for through our Early Childhood Music program. There are two choirs in the program:
- Musical Performance Group
- Adult Community Choir (there is provision for high school students to participate).
Musical Performance Program
A choir for primary school children with vocal tutor, Tammy Clark. Singers will receive vocal coaching and movement and costuming will be incorporated for performance. The program also has a strong focus on musical theatre, and will assist the students in working towards the Eisteddfod as well as the mid and end of term performances.
A choir for serious singers (who also like to have fun!) and enjoy singing challenging material in parts. The choir is directed by vocal tutor, James Brown.
Each choir rehearses once a week at the Gunnedah Town Hall. Rehearsals begin with a warm-up which focuses on techniques for good vocal tone quality and vocal health, essential for developing voice. The remainder of the rehearsal involves learning repertoire and polishing song presentation in preparation for performance.
Our aim is to promote a friendly and fun learning environment where children and adults can nurture a love for music and confidence in themselves as singers.
Performance opportunities, including public concerts, Eisteddfod, corporate functions, will be sought for each choir as participants gain in confidence and build their repertoire. It is anticipated each choir will perform at least twice a semester.
The Youth Choir is suitable for students in both Primary and High School, and runs on Mondays at 6.30pm. It is an ensemble group for students currently enrolled in other Conservatorium activities.
