Live Under the Gunnedah Sky - Home-grown sounds capturing the magic of Latin America
Presented in association with Musica Viva Australia
Pack a picnic blanket, gather your family and friends, and soak up a beautiful evening of live music outdoors!
SONIDO brings a vibrant celebration of Latin American culture to Gunnedah — right from the heart of Australia. With rhythms that make you want to move and melodies that warm the soul, this band brings the spirit of the Andes and the buzz of the Caribbean to our very own backyard.
Founded in 1977 and proudly Australian, Sonido’s musicians are master multi-instrumentalists, performing with more than 40 instruments on stage. Expect the soaring sounds of traditional Andean panpipes and charango, mixed with the joyful pulse of congas, bass, and piano that take you straight to Latin street festivals.
What makes SONIDO special?
Their music is home-grown — all original songs written by past and present band members raised here in Australia. They honour their heritage while mixing in the sounds of the place they call home. It’s music from many cultures, crafted here — a folklore that belongs everywhere and nowhere all at once.
Whether you love discovering something new or just enjoy relaxing outdoors with great live music, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
Approx. 120 minutes with an Interval
All songs are original works written by Australian members of the ensemble
